My Yupik teacher walked into my classroom. Sat down on the stool. Took a good look at my class. Got up. Wrote this word on the bored. They started to pronounce it and got as far as the 'pia' part before she told them to stop.
"What does it mean?" I asked.
My students: "It's a long word. It says, really tired. Ms. Anita is telling us that we are really tired."
I then looked at her and while laughing asked, "So if I can't prounounce it, I must be tired, too?"
I could have sworn I heard from a student, "No, it means you're old."
Go figure.
